After a person passes away, the family members begin planning the funeral service. If you have never handled this responsibility in the past in your family, you might not be aware of what is involved. At Blair Mazzarella Funeral Home, we understand how challenging it can be to organize a funeral while managing your grief.

Steps Involved Before The Funeral

Our knowledgeable funeral director and staff help with all the information and assistance you need to plan the service. However, here is some helpful information on what to expect before the funeral:

1. Consultation

The first thing to do is to contact a reputable funeral home in your local area. The funeral director will understand your requirements and help you plan everything down to the last detail. They will make transportation arrangements to bring your loved one’s remains to the funeral home. They will also help with casket selection and planning all the services you need, including organizing the burial plot.

2. Details You Need to Provide

You will need to give the funeral director various details about the decedent to help them plan the funeral and/or memorial service. The paperwork can be pretty extensive, and they will need some information from you such as:

  • The deceased’s full name
  • His/her social security number
  • Marital status
  • The parent’s names
  • Kid’s and spouse names
  • Educational history
  • Recent photographs
  • Work history
  • Religious affiliation

Every funeral home will follow their specific processes, and if they need some other information, they will inform you about it when you have the first consultation with them.

3. Planning The Funeral

Once you provide all the information they need, the funeral home will start with organizing everything. They will contact a clergy person or celebrant and arrange for flowers, lighting, the casket, decorations you may need, etc. For more details about our services and for preplanning a funeral, contact Blair Mazzarella Funeral Home. Our funeral director will help with the information you need.
